The popularity of air fryers has created a distinct household-cleaning use case. The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service describes an air fryer as a countertop convection appliance that uses rapidly circulating hot air; food, grease and small particles may reach the basket, drip pan, interior walls and heating area. For cleaning-product teams, this is not simply a matter of renaming a general kitchen degreaser. They must first distinguish removable food-contact components, non-food-contact interior surfaces and the electrical base that must not be immersed.
Public instructions from appliance manufacturers show clear differences between components. Philips advises unplugging the appliance and allowing it to cool first. Depending on the model, the basket and pan may be cleaned with hot water, washing-up liquid and a soft sponge; work near the heating element calls for a soft sponge or a suitable brush, while wire brushes and other tools that may damage coatings should be avoided. 'Cuts grease' is therefore only the starting point: materials, construction, application method and mechanical abrasion are all compatibility questions.
Food-contact surfaces introduce another boundary. The FDA's 2022 Food Code is a model code for retail and food-service settings, not a manual for domestic air fryers. Even so, its framework—selecting a cleaning procedure for the equipment and soil, effectively removing soil, and rinsing or sanitising where required—helps development teams distinguish visible grease removal from a complete food-contact-surface cleaning process. In the home, the product label and the manual for the actual appliance remain decisive.

More responsible communication should carry surface scope, prohibited areas, rinsing requirements, contact time and test conditions beyond the limited bottle label, using the product page, instructions or a customer-service knowledge base to explain them clearly.
For an OEM or ODM project, the brief should also begin with a map of the appliance. When an air-fryer project enters that process, sampling should identify at least the target models or components, coating and plastic materials, soil types, application orientation, wiping or rinsing method, spray format and foreseeable misuse—not merely compare how quickly one patch of grease disappears.
The Ninja AF100-series instructions further illustrate component-specific routes: the main unit must not be immersed, removable baskets and accessories are cleaned as directed, stubborn residue may first be soaked in warm washing-up liquid, the heating element is treated with a cleaning brush, and every component is allowed to dry thoroughly. Dishwasher suitability also varies between brands and models. A specialist-cleaner page should not generalise an operation from one brand's manual into a universal industry method.
Cleaning validation cannot rest on a single before-and-after photograph. FDA research on allergen cleaning of food-contact surfaces found that pre-scraping supports later cleaning and that a complete wash, rinse, sanitise and air-dry procedure performs better than simple wiping; soil type, surface texture and material also affect removal and transfer. The study did not test an EPHYON product or a domestic air fryer, but it shows why product teams need boundaries established across multiple surfaces and soils rather than a single demonstration standing in for validation.
The real upgrade path for the air-fryer-cleaner category is a move from 'stronger grease removal' to clearer management of the appliance, materials, food contact and the cleaning procedure. Brands should classify components first, then design the formulation and packaging, validate compatibility, residue and usability, and state the exceptions.
