Can cleaning liquid be sprayed directly onto a TV or computer monitor?

Direct answer: usually do not spray directly. Turn off and unplug the device, consult its manual and wipe gently with a clean soft lint-free cloth. If the manufacturer allows water or a dedicated cleaner, put a small amount on the cloth rather than the screen so liquid cannot enter around the bezel. Coatings and models differ; household glass cleaner is not automatically suitable.

Identify the surface first. TVs, monitors, touchscreens, glass enclosures and anti-glare or textured panels may allow different methods. Apple says not to spray cleaner directly and provides separate care for some textured glass; looking like glass is not enough to select a cleaner.

Sony’s 2026 OLED/LCD care guidance says to disconnect power, avoid direct spraying and begin with a clean microfiber cloth. For a commercial screen cleaner, it also advises confirming suitability with the product maker. The device maker’s permission comes before seeking a universal liquid.

Samsung likewise recommends a soft, clean, lint-free dry cloth, no direct water or liquid spray, and no heavy pressure. Dell explains that sprayed liquid can run to the panel base and reach electronics; it also applies a small amount of suitable liquid to the cloth.

For dust, start with a dry cloth. For fingerprints, follow the device manual before slightly dampening it. Avoid paper towels, rough or gritty cloths, window cleaner, multipurpose household cleaner, solvents and abrasives. Restore power only after the surface and bezel are dry.
